at 14:00

Class length
150 minutes

Class location
WORKSHOP IN STUDIO - Haddington Road

Yin Yoga and Acupuncture direct the smooth flow of vital energy - known as Qi - throughout the mind and body boosting overall wellness, and balancing Yin and Yang energy levels.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory has its foundations in the interplay of
 Five Elements
  Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water.

In Five Elements,  the element of METAL is connected to the season of Autumn, a time to let go.
A time to prepare for the depths of Winter.

The METAL energy pathways are connected to our Lung and Large Intestine organ systems.

On a physical level, these organs and systems are all about Elimination. They take in Qi in the form of oxygen and nutrients but then Filter Out and Exhale  and Eliminate what is not needed.

On an emotional level, the Metal element is a mirror of our sense of worth. How we see our value.

On a mental level, the Metal mind is sharp and discerning, but can be overly rigid, dogmatic and struggles to let go. Attached to neatness, order, the metal personality tends towards perfectionism.

This two and a half hour workshop, jointly hosted by Lucia O’Byrne and Susan Ní Dhubhlaoich will include

  • A short introduction to Five Elements Theory
  • An exploration of the Metal element  and personality including typical ailments, body type and supports.
  • An acupuncture experience targetting Lung & Large Intestine Qi
  • Super grounding Yin Yoga to channel  Qi into the Lung and Large Intestine
Day:      Saturday 18 November
Time:   1.30 – 4pm
Fee:       €40

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga has its roots in the ancient Chinese philosophy of Daoism. At the heart of Daoism is the belief in the need for balance between the twin forces of Yin and Yang that we see everywhere: Darkness and Light; Cold and Hot; Inaction and Action. Yin and Yang complement one another to achieve a state of harmony.

In Yin Yoga by holding poses for longer periods of time (2-3 minutes) we are therapeutically ‘stressing’’ and applying pressure to the energy pathways. This stimulates the flow of vital energy (Qi) into bones, nerves, muscles and connective tissue where so much deep tension accumulates.

Yin yoga is deeply calming and meditative. It soothes the nervous system flipping it back into ‘rest and digest’ mode.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force by inserting tiny needles into specific points along the body. Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain and disorders but increasingly, it is being used as regular practice for boosting overall wellness and stress management.
