WORKSHOP IN STUDIO - Haddington Road

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has its foundations in the interplay of FIVE ELEMENTS and the constant shifting and movement of Yin and Yang energy.

The Five Elements in the cycle are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water.  Learn about the TCM Five Elements here.

These elements are found everywhere in nature. They are present within each of us.

In Five Elements theory, the element of FIRE represents the peak of the Yang Cycle.  It is connected to the season of Summer, a time of expansion.

The Fire Element is all about Joy, Warmth, the building of Connection.

Physically, the Fire element corresponds to our cardiovascular system - blood circulation.

Emotionally, Fire is linked to the emotions of Joy, Connection, Love.

A balanced Fire element manifests in joy and love but if overactive - will lead to anxiety and insomnia.

Fire personalities love people. They love adventure. They seek out new experiences. But... when out of balance Fire personality types become over-excited and restless.

Energetically, the Heart and Small Intestine organs, along with the Pericardium (known as the Heart Protector) and Triple-Burner are the meridians aligned with this element.

The Pericardium plays a hugely important role in our emotional wellbeing and stability. The triple-burner regulates temperature and maintains fluid balance.

This two and a half hour workshop, jointly hosted by acupuncturist Lucia O’Byrne and senior yoga teacher Susan Ní D will include

An introduction to the Five Elements Theory

An exploration of the Fire Element - including typical ailments we might experience at this time of year

An overview of the Fire Personality

An Acupuncture Experience stimulating the Heart and Small Intestine Qi points

Grounding yoga practice - 75 mins of Yoga to channel Qi into the Heart & Small Intestine pathways - Mostly YIN but with a little Yang spice to honour the rising Yang energy at this time of the year.

There will be Essential Oils that support the rising Yang energy of Summer

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga has its roots in the ancient Chinese philosophy of Daoism. At the heart of Daoism is the belief in the need for balance between the twin forces of Yin and Yang that we see everywhere: Darkness and Light; Cold and Hot; Inaction and Action. Yin and Yang complement one another to achieve a state of harmony.

In Yin Yoga by holding poses for longer periods of time (2-3 minutes) we are therapeutically ‘stressing’’ and applying pressure to energy pathways known as meridians. This will stimulate the flow of vital energy (Qi) into our bones, nerves, muscles and the connective tissues - where so much deep tension accumulates.

Yin yoga is deeply calming and meditative. It soothes the nervous system flipping it back into ‘rest and digest’ mode.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force by inserting tiny needles into specific points along the body. Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain and disorders but increasingly, it is being used as regular practice for boosting overall wellness and stress management.
