Join this immersive Ancestral Sound Healing and Yin Yoga experience

by Candlelight on The Darkest Night.

Hosted by Liam Oragh & Susan Ni D

The Winter Solstice, known by many names - Midwinter, The Longest Night, the Hibernal Solstice, Yule, Grianstad an Gheimhridh, is the day with the shortest amount of daylight and the longest hours of darkness.

For our ancestors, this time of year must have been truly terrifying. Imagine the unease and fear they felt as the daily descent into darkness continued. Did they dare to believe that the light would return?

Fast forward to today, it’s a time of year when we are pulled in all directions, engulfed by external distractions which can swiftly shift us into a state of overwhelm.

This immersive Solstice YinSonic experience is a chance for you to press PAUSE. (Exactly what the sun does on this dark night of the soul.)

On the Winter Solstice evening our Mandala studio transforms into a New-Grange-like chamber, lit only by candlelight. We will leave devices and distractions at the door. We will move slowly through grounding yin poses to the accompaniment of ancestral sounds created by human healing instruments and the human voice.

There will be poetry, reflection and silence.

Susan Ní D, co-founder and Yin Yoga teacher at Mandala Yoga will be joined by Sound Druid Liam Oragh in this first YinSonic collaboration.

What is Yin Yoga?  Yin yoga is a very slow-paced style of yoga that is practiced close to the ground with props to support the body. The postures are held for longer periods of time - ranging from two to five minutes. By applying moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body (tendons, fascia, and ligaments) your physical body surrenders. You will experience a deep release and notice increased circulation in the joints.

On a mental and emotional level Yin Yoga clears out blockages and stagnant energy. Yin yoga is a gateway into our inner landscape and encourages deep awareness and exploration of our inner world.  It is deeply calming and meditative soothing the nervous system by flipping it back into ‘rest and digest’ mode.

Yin Yoga has its roots in the ancient Chinese philosophy of Daoism. At the heart of Daoism is the belief in the need for balance between the twin forces of Yin and Yang that we see everywhere: Darkness and Light; Cold and Hot; Inaction and Action. Yin and Yang complement one another to achieve a state of harmony.

What is Sound Healing?  Also known as Sound Therapy is the practice of using sound and frequency to bring harmony, healing and relaxation to the body, mind and soul. A variety of sound healing instruments such as singing bowls, crystal bowls, chimes and gongs are used. The vibrations from the instruments assist in the release of emotional and energetic blockages in the body and stimulate healing in a simple yet profound way. Sound healing or sound bathing is a form of sonic meditation that enables deep relaxation.
